Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Cook the Lasagna Noodles:
  6. While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  7. Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
  8. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  9. Assemble the Lasagna:
  10. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom.
  12. Arrange a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  13. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  14. Sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta.
  15. Add another layer of meat sauce.
  16. Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, sauce) until all the ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce.
  17. Sprinkle the top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  18. Bake:
  19. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  20. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  21. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  22. Serve:
  23. Let the lasagna cool for about 15 minutes before slicing.
  24. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve.
  25. Tips:
  26. Make-Ahead: You can assemble the lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate it until you're ready to bake.
  27. Vegetarian Option: Substitute the ground beef with a mixture of sautéed vegetables like zucchini, spinach, and mushrooms.
  28. Extra Flavor: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a bit of heat, or use Italian sausage instead of ground beef for a richer flavor.
